Teak bed, white cotton, a floor cool enough to be worth walking barefoot on, and air-conditioning that means it. Chechi's breakfast comes with the room, which is the single best argument for booking one. The break is two minutes away on foot, less at a run, and you will run at least once.

The same sea, the same salt, more room to drop your bag in. Bigger bed, heavier curtain for the mornings you have genuinely earned a lie-in, and the quieter side of the house. Two of these exist. They go first, every season, to people who booked before they finished reading this.

One bed, air-conditioned, breakfast included, and the best odds in the house of leaving with people you'll visit in another country. Four beds is not a hostel. It's a small room of strangers who are on first-name terms by the second breakfast and swapping numbers by the third.

New this season
We are building a pool at the house, and it opens in the first week of November 2026, just as the season gets going. Somewhere to cool off after the morning session, to float with a book in the afternoon, and where our surf camps practise paddling before they take it to the sea.
It is still under construction, so there are no photos yet. They go up the week it opens.
The rooftop
Fresh Kerala breakfast every morning. Juices. The rooftop where strangers become regulars. A session, a nap, yoga on the roof, Flow Cult skatepark just down the road in the evening. Pulli the dog, Kuma's self-appointed feel-good manager, following you everywhere and sometimes a little too far. People book three nights and leave after nine. We've stopped being surprised.
Where it is
One of Varkala's quietest and most beautiful beaches is just out front. Far enough from the tourist noise to actually hear the waves, close enough to North Cliff that dinner up there is about ten minutes away on a scooter. This is the right distance from everything.

While you're wondering
Five private rooms, each with a large teak-framed bed, A/C and an en-suite bathroom, plus one dorm with a shared bathroom. That is the whole villa. Kuma is a house, not a hotel, and in season it fills from the dorm upward.
Because the season does. The quiet weeks in October are the cheapest nights of the year, the house fills from mid-November, and Christmas and New Year are the dearest nights we sell. Rather than quote one average price and surprise you at the end, every date is published on the rooms page and the booking form adds up the nights you actually pick. A stay that crosses a change is priced night by night.
Yes. Every room and bed comes with the homemade Kerala breakfast, served on the rooftop. Fresh fruit, appam, eggs, juice, coffee. Not staying with us? You're welcome at the table for ₹250, chai or juice included.
Yes. ₹15 a piece. Hand it to Kuma and it comes back dry and folded, which after a week of saltwater is a bigger deal than it sounds.
Short list. Pet-friendly, though Pulli isn't allowed in the guest rooms, a rule he disputes. Parties and drinks are welcome, just keep the volume reasonable. A lost key or damage may cost you.
Just ask. There are several places within easy reach and we know which ones look after their bikes. Having one turns Kappil and the cliff from a plan into a whim.
Edava beach is about 50 metres away, a two-minute walk. For lessons we run a beach transfer anyway, and it's included in the price.
