A/C Double
Teak bed, white cotton, a floor cool enough to be worth walking barefoot on, and air-conditioning that means it. Chechi's breakfast comes with the room, which is the single best argument for booking one. The break is two minutes away on foot, less at a run, and you will run at least once.

Who the A/C Double suits, and how a day runs
The A/C Double is the room the house has most of: three, against two Deluxes and one dorm. It sleeps two, and the rate is for the room, so one surfer pays the same as a pair.

- Included with the room. Lekha Chechi's homemade Kerala breakfast is served on the rooftop: fruit, appam, eggs, juice and coffee.
- A day from here
- Lesson slots are timed to the weather and the tide. After breakfast the day is yours: work from the shade, read, or rent a scooter and head for the backwaters. Evenings end on the terrace.
- House rules
- Look after the key. A lost key or damage may cost you.
- Extras
- Laundry is charged by the piece. Kuma will arrange an airport transfer if you ask; Trivandrum airport is about an hour south.

The room
The A/C Double at Edava beach, Varkala
There are three A/C Doubles in the house. Each one comes down to a teak-framed bed, white cotton, a marble floor and a curtain heavy enough to argue with the sun.
The room doesn't pretend to be a suite. It's a clean, cool place to sleep between sessions, about 50 metres from the beach.

Wood, cotton and a carafe of water
Up close, the room is a short list. The mattress sits down inside its teak frame. A carafe of filtered water and glasses wait on the side table, with sockets at the bedside for your phone.
In the bathroom there are three black bottles with Kuma on the label, so the washbag can mostly stay shut.
After the water
Curtain shut, A/C on, nap earned
Lessons run in the morning. Rinse off under the outdoor shower, eat breakfast on the rooftop, then come back down, pull the curtain and let the A/C do its job.
Breakfast is included in the rate for an A/C Double at Edava beach, Varkala. Check-out is 11:00 AM, and a later one is often possible if nobody needs the room. Just ask.
