Who the dorm suits, and how sharing works
The dorm is one air-conditioned room of four single beds, priced per bed.
- Who it suits
- Solo surfers, and anyone who likes company. When a group stays, the dorm is where the sociable ones end up, and the private rooms go to the couples and light sleepers.
- Breakfast
- Included. Dorm guests eat at the same rooftop table as everyone in the private rooms.
- A day from here
- Mornings are for the water. The middle of the day is yours to sleep, read or hire a scooter, and the rooftop is where everyone ends up, dance nights included.
- House rules
- In a shared room the volume rule matters most: drinks are welcome, but someone is always surfing at dawn.

One bed in a room of four, air-conditioned, with fresh linen when you arrive, a socket at the bedside and a towel of your own.
Breakfast is on the rooftop and it is in the price, whatever the date. It is the cheapest way to sleep at Kuma, and the beach is the same 50 metres away for you as for everyone else.
The house around it
One small room in a small guesthouse
The dorm is a single room of four beds. Around it sits the rest of the house: five private rooms, the garden and terrace, the rooftop, and doors with surf names over them.
Dorm guests get the same run of the place as everyone else, including the WiFi, the parking and Pulli, who is not allowed in the guest rooms and has never accepted it.
Sharing, practically
Wet boards out, clean sheets in
The bathroom is shared and the water runs hot. Boards go into storage downstairs after the outdoor rinse, so the salt stays out of the room.
Laundry is ₹15 a piece, for when everything in the backpack smells of the sea.
Four of you travelling together? One booking can take every bed, and a dorm of strangers becomes a room with only your people in it.
