Finding us

Near Manthara Temple.

Edava is the northern end of Varkala. If a driver says “Varkala cliff” you have gone too far south, the landmark to give them is Manthara Temple, and we are a moment from it.

By train
Edava railway station is the closest stop, on the Trivandrum to Kollam line. Auto-rickshaws wait outside.
By air
Trivandrum (TRV). about an hour by road. Tell us your flight and we'll arrange a car.
Once you're here
The beach is fifty steps from the door. North Cliff is about ten minutes by scooter, and we'll point you at somewhere to rent one.
Give your driver this

When we're around

Mornings are in the water.

First session leaves the house at 7:30 and nobody is looking at a phone until after breakfast. Message any time. It just means a WhatsApp sent at dawn gets answered around ten.

Afternoons and evenings are the fastest. If something is urgent and you're already here, walk up to the rooftop; somebody is always on it.

We haven't published a guaranteed reply time because we haven't got one to guarantee. In practice it is usually within the hour.

By road

How to reach Kuma Surf at Edava, Varkala, by road.

Driving to Edava yourself, or coming by taxi from Trivandrum airport? There is free private parking at the house, so the car can stay put while you go and look at the sea.

The simplest way to find us is the “Open in Google Maps” link on this page. It opens our own listing with the pin on the property, whereas typing our name into a search can hand you somebody else.

If a form asks for a postcode, it is 695311.

Timing your arrival

Rooms from one, out by eleven, and flexible where we can be.

You can check in from 1:00 PM, and the room needs to be free by 11:00 AM. Trains and flights pay no attention to either.

If you are landing early or leaving late, tell us when you book. If the room is free, it is usually no trouble.

If it is not free yet, the beach is about fifty metres away, which is not the worst place in Kerala to wait.

Lessons

Here for a lesson, not a room? We collect you.

Surf lessons include pick-up from where you are staying in Edava or central Varkala, and a drop back afterwards, so for a lesson your address matters more than ours.

Message us on WhatsApp with the name of the place you are staying, the day you want to surf, whether you want a group or a private session, and how many of you are surfing. Lessons are priced per person.

The board and rash vest come with the lesson. Bring sunscreen and water, and leave the directions to us.
